On January 24th BC BuzZ got the opportunity to Taste BC…..literally!

Liberty Wine Merchant for the 18th year hosted over 500 thirsty & hungry guests at the Four Seasons Hotel in VanCity to devour drinks & food from British Columbia’s best wineries, breweries, restaurants & more!

From Okanagan Falls’ Blasted Church to Creston BC’s Baillie-Grohman to Yaletown’s (and our fave) Rodney’s Oyster House, BC’s best was showcased to its fullest.

Since the event launched, Taste BC has raised over $186,000 to benefit BC Children’s Hospital’s Oak Tree Clinic, including $15,000 from this years Taste BC.

BC BuzZ got the chance to sit down with our Border-Town buddy Scott Patey. Originally from Lloydminster Alberta/Saskatchewan, this fresh face in comedy is a relatively new transplant to British Columbia and lighting up the stages weekly in Vancouver with some of BC’s best comics. From film & tv to local comedy clubs, Scott is a one-of-a-kind artist that is making a name for himself and getting laughs on a regular basis where he performs!

Check out Scott Patey at Corduroy in Kits for Rock, Paper, Corduroy on Monday nights and his monthly party of laughter and music at the Media Club in downtown VanCity for Laugh Your Ass Off.

There’s nothing more special then to see someone with a smile plastered all over their face…….and the good doctors, well Clown-Doctors that is, at Jest for Joy work one smile at a time! If you remember the Robin Williams movie Patch Adams, you’ll know exactly what we are talking about. Jest for Joy brings joy and inspiration to the British Columbian health care system through the integration of clown-doctoring. Their ultimate goal is to improve and focus on the wellness of patients in health care settings through wit, physical theatre, improv, song & dance and tons of foolery! If you’d like to support these clowns grab yourself a ticket to The Annual Jest for Joy Naughty Noses Gala on February 24th.
Hosted by CKNW’s Simi Sara, the gala will include stand-up comedy, silent and live auctions, music by DJ Byron James & more! Tickets sold out last year so get them while they are still available.
Keep tuned to BC BuzZ as we will be clowning around with Jest for Joy in the next couple of weeks!

I read once that the best hosts are the ones who let their guests take centre stage - not themselves.  They should always have the utmost respect for the guests and their audience.

When you have interviewed about 15,000 guests in a 15 year span, the guests also respect you and your audience shows their love by continually tuning in each day.

This is the case for Fiona Forbes & Michael Eckford of Shaw TV’s Urban Rush (Weekdays at 5pm).  In this day and age in broadcasting, they have accomplished something that not many others have had, and thats a long line of success.  Add the fact they have won numerous awards, hosted brilliant events and still to this day love working with each other.  Not bad for a former law student and construction worker that are probably the most loved pair on BC TV today.

BC BuzZ got to sit down with the duo for a couple minutes and by the end noticed two big things, they love what they do and they have fun doing it…….sounds like a perfect life.  We also noticed two other things, they talk a lot (which makes sense considering their job) and they are truly two very funny people.  We are BuzZ’d to have so much footage, there’s a good chance you may see more of them on BC BuzZ in the future.

Check out Urban Rush on Shaw TV, weekdays at 5pm

Nestled in the middle of the mountains in the Outdoor Capital of Canada looking up at the Chief is craft brewing done to perfection!  We are speaking of Squamish, BC’s Howe Sound Inn & Brewing Company.  Located along the Sea-to-Sky highway only 45 minutes away from Vancouver sits a brew pub, brewery, dining room, boutique hotel & more all wrapped in one spot.  With 26 beers, 20 hotel rooms, live music, catering facilities, a Red Seal chef and a location fitted for an adventure king & queen, The Howe Sound is all the BuzZ!  BC BuzZ took in a behind the scenes tour of the brewery and we cant wait to head back for more.

Check out www.howesound.com for all winter promotions, brewpub events & weekly specials.

BC BuzZ had the opportunity to get up close and personal with one of BC’s funniest, original and creative performers, Sara Bynoe.  Recently voted as one of Vancouver’s most hilarious people (with 8 other jokesters) by The Westender, Sara is on a rampage breaking down barriers and bringing some of the most original styles of shows to the performing arts scene.  Whats even more impressive is the people she brings along with her.  Not keeping with one style of artist, Miss Bynoe has been mixing it up with BC’s finest writers, comics, singers, actors and more.  Next up for Sara is the Vancouver International Fringe Festival, Literary Death Match at W2 and the Olio Festival (when does a girl sleep?).
