Recently BC BuzZ got to hit the road and venture to the Thompson Okanagan and into the Loop, Kamloops that is. Enjoying everything from a successful film festival (KFF) to eating and drinking good at great spots like Felix on 5th and The Noble Pig as well as hitting up one of our fave spots in town and kicking it back with the locals at The Art We Are! Totally BuzZ’d every time we head into Kamloops as the one spot that mixes art, music and really good natural food is always open for business with open arms. Next time you are in the Loop, follow your senses and explore The Art We Are!

Darcy’s new DVD is officially on-sale today and only costs $3.00……yes that’s right only Three Bucks! That’s two dollars less than Louis CK’s DVD and hell Darcy is better looking (he’d probably agree not by much).
You may turn on the telly tonight and see such talent shows as American Idle, The Voice, X-Factor or Canada’s Got Talent, all of which showcase one talent or another….sometimes no talent. But nothing can hold a candle to BC’s best talent show that has been going strong for 4 years, Paul Anthony’s Talent Time! Hosted by Vancouver’s Paul Anthony the show is held at Biltmore Cabaret once a month and showcases the best in local talent sprinkled with some national & international entertainers, comics & more! Be sure to check out the last show of the season Wednesday May 2nd at 9pm, details at www.talenttime.tv.

With more than 100 films, 72 screenings, 5 venues, 6 world premieres and the first ever digital interactive film to open the festival, DOXA is committed to breaking new ground in documentary presentation. The festivalʼs Opening and Closing films are engaged with systems of surveillance, and technology. From the life of a grizzly bear documented in more than a million motion captured images in BEAR 71, to the call for freedom issued by artist/activist Ai Weiwei via his twitter account in AI WEIWEI: NEVER SORRY, lived experience is increasingly mediated through the lens of technology. As usual the buffet of great films is too big to mention all, but some of our faves to watch are:

HOW TO START A REVOLUTION

BIG BOYS GONE BANANAS!

DO YOU REALLY WANT TO KNOW?

COAST MODERN

JASON BECKER: NOT DEAD YET

From May 4-13, this years DOXA festival is sure to bring out the best in docs as Western Canada’s largest documentary film festival. Tickets are on sale now and already some shows are sold out, so don’t wait, buy your tickets now!

BC BuzZ wants to stress that we are not biased towards any martial arts school, organization or fighter, what we are is all about celebrating the sport of mixed martial arts in our great province. For all the schools, fight organizations and martial artists we bid you only the best for years to come and hope the sport grows bigger and better each year.

Kickstart which is an organization thats mission is to produce, present and promote works by artists with disabilities is launching WAM: Wide Angle Media Festival from March 22-25

WAM is an inaugural disability media festival featuring commissioned shorts, international films and workshops.

The theme of the Festival – “wide angle” – refers to the spirit of expansiveness and inclusion that lies at the core of disability arts, and to the widest range of media genres and formats. The intent is to broaden audiences for works by media artists with disabilities; to celebrate the spectrum of genres, styles and vision of those artists; and, to support the creation of new works.

Audiences will enjoy a privileged glimpse of the world through the lens of the disability experience. The themes of these works will be unlimited – they are not necessarily films about issues of disability; they will be about anything under the sun, as seen by filmmakers with disabilities

For a the full schedule of events including workshops & screening go to http://wideanglemedia.ca

There’s nothing more special then to see someone with a smile plastered all over their face…….and the good doctors, well Clown-Doctors that is, at Jest for Joy work one smile at a time! If you remember the Robin Williams movie Patch Adams, you’ll know exactly what we are talking about. Jest for Joy brings joy and inspiration to the British Columbian health care system through the integration of clown-doctoring. Their ultimate goal is to improve and focus on the wellness of patients in health care settings through wit, physical theatre, improv, song & dance and tons of foolery! BC BuzZ got to hang out with the Jest for Joy clowns aka Dr. BB & Dr. Nose-a-Lot at the George Pearson Centre in Vancouver and as they say, “laughter is the best medicine”!
