Just last weekend we were invited with open arms up to Lytton, BC (3hrs north of Vancouver….a glorious drive) for a white-water rafting trip care of the giants of the rapids Kumsheen Rafting Resort.  This was our first time up to the resort and first on the water rafting.  We arrived Saturday night to an evening of camping and live music.  The nice added bonus that Kumsheen is doing during the summer is a concert series showcasing some amazing musicians.  From folk to rock to roots, blues and jazz they have it covered every Saturday at 8:30pm by the Gazebo. Even if you dont make it to the gazebo you can chill by your campsite or cabin and hear the sounds echoing off the mountains.   The next morning we woke up to a bus full of adventurous souls anxious to ride the rapids.  Our guides were Ben (aka Howla’) and Ryan (he was our main boat guide) who couldnt have been a better duo to tour us down the mighty Thompson River. After a thorough safety talk we were off…and let me say they are right, looking at the rapids from the resort a couple hundred feet above is not the same as being on them…they are bigger then you expect.  We spent 4-5hrs on the water power-rafting thru and over rapids with such names as THE WITCHES CAULDRON, THE CUTTING BOARD, JAWS OF DEATH and my fave THE MOTHER IN-LAW cuz after you go past her, she’ll slap ya in the back of the head!  The rafting was magnificent, the prepared lunch was so yummy (love the fact we got ice cream cones!!) and the tour de force of stories you get to hear all the way down the river is oh-so memorable. If you are wondering about paddle vs power, I will say this, both are exciting but the nice advantage to the power is you can go thru the rapids and then turn around and do it again and again…and again! Big thank you to the crew at Kumsheen for their hospitality and for the great couple days we spent up there.  The resort has everything from tent sites to teepees and full fledged canvas cabins which we got to enjoy on the 2nd night.  Also the amenities were amazing, from volleyball to a hot tub and pool, to kids area and disc golf to basketball court and more!
